A reminder for Ayaam al Beed by Dr. Bilal Philips

Salaam Alaykum,

I would like to remind you and myself that fasting, in general, stands out from the other religious obligations and recommendations. According the Prophet’s statements, it is done only for Allah and He will multiply its reward without measure (Bukhari). Furthermore, there is no other act of worship equivalent to it. (Al Nisaa’i). Let us remember the exceptional benefits of the voluntary fast based on the Prophet’s statements: 1. The du’aa (supplication) of a fasting person will be answered (Al-Bayhaqi), 2. It will be a source of intercession on the Day of Resurrection (Ahmad), 3. It is also protection from the Hellfire (Ahmad), and 4. Allah has dedicated a special gate of Paradise, ar-Rayyaan, for those who fast regularly (Bukhari).

Consequently, we should try to fast at least 3 days every month, as it was narrated that ‘Abdullaah ibn ‘Amr ibn al-‘Aas said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said to me: “It is sufficient for you to fast three days every month regularly, because for every good deed you will have the reward of ten like it, so that will be like fasting for a lifetime.” (Bukhari & Muslim).

However, the best 3 days for monthly fasting are the days of the full moon (Ayyaam al-Beed). Abu Tharr related that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) informed him: “If you fast any part of the month, then it is preferable to fast the thirteenth, fourteenth and fifteenth .” (at-Tirmithi & an-Nasaa’i).

So let us benefit from this wonderful spiritual opportunity and, by the Mercy and will of Allah, let us step onto the path to ar-Rayyan together by fasting on Monday, Tuesday andWednesday of the coming week (12th, 13th and 14th May).

Wassalaam

Reported by Abu…

Reported by Abu Hurairah (RA): The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, “When Allah loves a slave, calls out Jibril and says: `I love so-and-so; so love him’. Then Jibril loves him. After that he (Jibril) announces to the inhabitants of heavens that Allah loves so-and-so; so love him; and the inhabitants of the heavens (the angels) also love him and then make people on earth love him”.

[Bukhari & Muslim]

Reported by Abu…

Reported by Abu Hurairah (RA): The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said, “My example and the example of the other Prophets before me is like that of a man who has built a house nicely and beautifully, except for a place of one brick in a corner. People go around it and wonder at its beauty, but say: ‘Would that this brick be put in its place!’ So I am that brick, and I am the end (last) of the Prophets.”

(Bukhari and Muslim)

Hadith

Reported by Jabir (RA): The tribe Banu Salimah wanted to move nearer to the mosque. On learning this Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said to them, “I heard that you intend to move nearer to the mosque.” They said, “That is so, O Messenger of Allah, we do want to do that.” He said, “O Banu Salimah, keep to your homes, your steps (to the mosque) are recorded.”

[Muslim]

Allah takes into account our unique circumstances, and there is a blessing at every turn. Masha Allah.
